Here are the details about international PHD scholarship programme offered by UCLAN

International PhD

Scholarship Project Title

A critical evaluation of the current role and future potential of news storytelling within the context of continuously changing digital news formats and platforms University of Central Lancashire – School of Journalism, media and Communication.

Applications are invited for a full-time scholarship available in the School of Journalism Media and Communication. The scholarship is tenable for up to 3 years for a PhD (via MPhil route) [subject to satisfactory progress] and is open to international applicants only.

Project Title

A critical evaluation of the current role and future potential of news storytelling within the context of continuously changing digital news formats and platforms

Project Description

News, like many other forms of communication, fundamentally is about storytelling. The ways in which stories have been told historically has varied in relation to changes in language use and sophistication, culture, technology, political and economic pressures, among other things.

Most crucially, the business of what is a good story and how audiences can be made interested in it is the result of a continuous process of dynamic interaction between all of these things, but technology is becoming increasingly important.

The radical acceleration of the development of digital technology that has occurred in the twenty-first century has introduced so many new different formats and platforms of news delivery that the technology has now outstripped the rate of news providers’ corresponding ability to rethink and reformulate their storytelling strategies.

This project will investigate in detail the nature of the interaction between this technological development drive and current news storytellers’ rates of adaption, together with the so far unrealized potential of various of the new platforms/ formats for facilitating new forms of creative news writing.

It will investigate the potential of new technologies for harmonizing story telling techniques with different sectors of the audience as they shift from one new platform/format to another.

It will explore also the potential of new formats/storytelling techniques for expanding the level of attention given to the detail rather than the headlines of the news. It will do this specifically with regard to platforms that contain inherent and limiting technical characteristics that encourage sampling and quick views rather than in-depth news viewing.

[NOTE: Applicants should have, or expect to receive a qualification
equivalent to a high class UK honors degree]

**Completed application forms should be emailed to uclanindia@gmail.com

Thames Valley Changes Its Avatar – Now Becomes ‘The University Of West London’

Recently Thames Valley University announced that it has changed its name to ‘The University of West London’. The new name highlights a strategic shift for the University, with a repositioning of their operations onto the Ealing and Brentford sites at West London campus.

It also emphasizes the university’s mission which is to raise aspiration through the pursuit of excellence, underpinned by a value proposition that has touted it as the ‘University for creative
professionals’.

Approval for the name change came from the Privy Council last year and since then Thames Valley University has been undertaking the careful process of re branding the University for the future, and are now rolling out a new logo as part of their visual identity.

This is a new name and there has been no change of legal identity. These changes come during an academic year that will see The University of West London welcome its new Chancellor- Laurence Geller. Laurence is currently President and CEO of Strategic Hotels and Resorts and one of the most distinguished alumni of the university. He will take up his term of office on 12 May.

With this new name comes a continuing commitment to all the partnerships of the university, along with the added value that the new ‘West London’ name will bring. In addition, the university plans to continue to work productively with businesses, cultural organizations, and the voluntary sector while taking the opportunity to rebrand their visual identity in a way that reinforces our long-standing and ongoing partnerships in the region.

The response to the name change has been overwhelmingly positive amongst all the current and prospective student bodies of Thames Valley University and the university anticipates that this will be reflected in their recruitment figures moving forward.

The university is now in the fortunate position of being recognized both nationally and internationally, which alongside their London location and continuing strong partnerships, makes them proud of their past but also really excited about the future.

As the Thames Valley University has been saying ‘Our proud heritage of over 150 years in teaching and professional education’, the ideologies remain the same just the names changes to The University Of West London!

Indian students wishing to pursue MBA after doing their masters in UK can finally let a sigh of relief. In a recent turn of events, the top UK universities who are member of UUK [ universities UK] an apex body of Britain’s top most universities came out in full support for international students wishing to pursue their second masters in UK.

According to the new proposed rules by the British government, it was being made a little rigid for the post graduate students in UK to get their MBA degree also from UK. But according to a statement issued by the UUK chief executive Nicola Dandridge, things will become easier for the students now. The British government has withdrawn its earlier designed new rules thus making it accessible for the Indian students to apply for their second masters in the top universities of UK.

As a matter of fact, the statement made by Dandridge ‘continue to be able to move from a master’s course to an MBA’ clearly indicates the amount of support an Indian student would get from these highly famous universities of UK.

According to the British proposed new rules, a student pursuing his master’s degree from UK can move to the second master’s degree only if the university showcases that the second master’s degree is an academic advancement.

For example, a student earning his masters degree in Economics from London School of Economics and Political Science [LSE] can join MBA programme at London School of Business and Finance College [LSBF] only if LSBF endorses the fact that this MBA degree is an academic progression.

There has been tension and a certain degree of unrest amongst Indian students since UK government came out with its rigid set of new rules for student visa. However, with the current turn of events and support shown by UUK will lay all their worries to rest and give them another shot at earning their MBA degree from UK only.

UUK or Universities UK currently consists of 133 member universities including the entire world’s highly ranked names like The Cambridge University, Oxford, London Business School, LSE, Imperial College and many more. Incidentally all the above top rung universities of UK are a favorite amongst Indian students.

Apply now for your student visa for UK and get a chance to earn not only one but two masters in UK in your desired college!

UK Announces Visa Cuts for Non EU Students-The Competition Rises for Indian Aspirants

In an announcement that was as expected as it was the monsoon rains, UK government declared that it would be cutting down the number of Visa issued to Non EU students coming to study in UK. The government would bring down the student visas issued by a large amount up to 80,000 an year.

This decision has come in light of the rise in abuse of study in UK route as an easy method of migration into the country. This has caused serious reasons of worry to the British government since quite some time now.

It had made its concerns public earlier too on various occasions and this decision in visa cuts for Non EUs was dreaded by many especially India and China who are going to be most affected by it.

According to Indian stats, there are around 34,000 students pursuing studies in UK at present. British data which takes into account sub-graduates also show more than 50,000 Indian students studying in UK, the second largest after the population of Chinese students in UK.

The UK government has made its target quite clear. It wants to ensure that only serious students get admission into genuine colleges of UK and put a stop to all the bogus degree awarding institutions of the country.

This would also reflect in the work permit granted to post graduate students. Only those Non EU students who posses offer of skilled jobs from sponsoring employers will be allowed to stay back in UK.

The number of studying opportunities for Indian students will in indeed become limited after the decision came out on last Tuesday. Indian government though apprehensive about this decision has shown its full support to the British government.

Home Secretary Theresa May affirmed that they too like UK wants to maintain the quality of education. The students should be able to go to UK colleges but only those with a fair chance who wish to study in genuine courses.

UK government is hoping to bring down the number of Non EU immigrants from 2, 00,000 [in 2010] to tens of thousands by the year 2015.

Not surprisingly enough, UK universities have shown their disapproval over this decision. After all, it would cut down into their annual income of rupees 30 trillion amounting from foreign students alone.

If you wish to study in UK, then don’t waste your time. To ensure you get a seat in your desired college of UK, contact offices of Future Defined, one of the leading overseas consultants of Delhi.
