Everyone who is an Indian must be familiar with IIT! Indian Institute of Technology or IIT is a brand in itself. As a matter of fact they have been awarded the status of ‘institutes of national importance’ by parliament of India. Studying engineering from such reputed colleges [15 in total] round the country would be a prestigious thing. On the other hand, there are some top universities in UK offering excellent Engineering Courses. A student will surely get confused as to whether prepare for IIT College in India or get admitted to a known University in UK? One should size up both the options carefully.

Engineering from IIT comes with its own string of benefits. Firstly, you will be studying in nation’s some of the best colleges. Secondly, you would be exposed to a world full of competent knowledge and high class training. According to study conducted by two IIT-Bombay professors titled ‘Engineering Education in India’ in the year 2006, the number of students graduating were 2.3 lakhs put of which only 20,000 made it to master degree and 1,000 made it to PH.D degree. Often being held responsible for the cause of brain drain, IIT Engineering colleges if open many doors of opportunities for students also manage to shut few too!

A university like Southampton, Manchester. Nottingham Trent, Newcastle which offers courses like BEng. and MEng. is a lucrative option if one goes by the following facts

•Almost all the engineering universities in UK are internationally recognized and governed by SARTOR [Standards and Routes to Registration]. This SARTOR is published by Engineering Council of UK.
•UK Engineering universities have strong links with the industry since ages!
•MEng. is a 4 year long course while BEng. is a 3 year long course in which a person is prepared to deal scientifically and technically with a situation. It also awards necessary practical application skills.
•It helps in the overall development of an individual and instills skills like leadership, teamwork through project works, project management, communication development, understanding about social and political environment etc.

Studying from UK University might be a little expensive too but benefited attached with it to are quite great. One can get an international opportunity right from the beginning of their courses as the universities look after the placement of their pupils with utmost care. One can conclude in the end that pursuing a degree from a known brand [IIT] to a top notch engineering university in UK is one or the same. The only difference that matter is your choice!

Sheffield Hallam University is identified as one of UK’s most innovative as well technologically progressive university. 1905- City Of Sheffield Training College on Collegiate Crescent admitted first batch of 90 students.

1976- Sheffield Polytechnic renamed to Sheffield City Polytechnic.
1992- City Polytechnic earned the right to award its own degrees and title of University and was renamed as Sheffield Hallam University.

The university accommodates them all in its two campuses i.e. City Campus in the main city and collegiate campus at the leafiest suburbs. A new building was added in May 2005 for health and social care education at Crescent campus known as Robert Winston Building. Situated in the fifth largest city of England, Sheffield Hallam University shares its base with Europe’s largest further education college. University of Manchester is known as the largest single site university in UK. As a matter of fact, it was created in 2004 by merging together two of the most distinguished universities of UK i.e. UMIST [University of Manchester and Institute for Science & Technology] and The Victoria University.
